Retirement Bicycle Ride Celebration

Posted on January 26, 2014 by Rob Spera

Champagne at end of celebration ride

My friend Rick celebrating with me at the end of the ride

A year and a half ago, my friend Rick and I went on a bike ride to celebrate his retirement. At the end of that ride, we celebrated with a champagne toast. I remember being so happy for him, and also wishing I was in the same situation he was. Rick told me to be patient. He said that the time would go by quickly until I too could leave the workplace behind. I started my countdown, counting the weeks and days until when I could join him in retirement. Several months ago after 34 years working as an electrical, software, and system engineer, I finally called it a career. Today we went on another retirement celebration bike ride. And once again, we celebrated at the end of the ride with a champagne toast to both the past and future.
