For the first time in over 200 days on tour, I did not complete the days ride. I simply could not keep my heart rate down. Whether it was exhaustion left over from Beartooth, the Claritin D, or the 48 degree temperature in constant rain, I had to abandon the ride. After 36 miles and 3 hours in the cold rain I got in the van. I really wanted to complete the ride to honor Sunwapta who passed away on this date 2 years ago. My heart is still racing as I lay on my bed. If I feel like this tommorrow, the tour may be over. Very disappointing.
Oh, Robby, I’m so sorry. This has really been a rough one for you. Although, all of your adventures would have been impossible for me. This had to be a very emotional day for you anyway. Get some rest. Hugs, Bonnie.
Thanks Bonnie, its okay. I knew this tour was going to be a rough one. It will probably be my last organized tour. This tour was the last one in the catalog I wanted to do. It’s time to start slowing down a bit. I am glad I did all those tours when I was younger.
Chalk it up to just a bad day my friend. It is hard for me to accept some of the limitations on my activity that physical changes are causing. I think that as much as I like running, it is no longer a benefit to my health. Just because you had a bad day during a big mountain ride in bad weather does not mean that you can’t stay in great shape. There will always be individuals more and less capable in athletic endeavors, just be proud that you’re out there trying. Dan
Thanks Dan. I have come to the realization during this tour that I need to back off a bit. Still stay active, but not to the point that I wreck my body. Want to stay active as long as I can so that means I have to dial it back a bit each year
