I am starting to prepare for my first trip as a travel adventure writer/photographer. I purchased a roof top container to attach to the top of my SUV. I also plan to get a bike rack that attaches to the trailer hitch to take my mountain bike, and will also take my road bike in the back of the SUV.
I am renting a condo in Frisco Colorado for most of June and July. I am going to drive there from Florida. There are actually only two turns on the drive. Drive up I-75, turn west on I-70, and then turn south into Frisco. I considered many travel options over the last year, including flying out there, buying a trailer, buying a Class C Motor-home, and even considered a Class A Motor Coach. I finally decided on driving out to Colorado and see how well that goes. The downside to renting a mountainside condo is that I have to leave the cats behind. I found no places to rent that will allow cats.
If I find traveling for this amount of time works well, I will continue taking trips like this each summer. If I find I miss that cats too much, or that I want to be on these trips for longer periods of time, then I will need to find a motor-home so that I can take the cats. This summer will be a good first step to trying to sort and figure this all out.
Take Interstate 24 at Chattanooga up through Nashville and on to Interstate 64 in southern Illinois over to pick up Interstate 70 at St. Louis. It’s a lot shorter than taking Interstate 75 all the way up to Indianapolis. Going through Nashville will also allow you to stop off and visit me both ways in Turkey Creek Tennessee when I get up there.
Sounds good Ron, thanks for travel route advice, look forward to seeing you on the way out and back.
This is going to be so much fun!
Yes Bonnie, finally starting my new life!
Rob, best of luck !!! ….. What’s with Frisco Colorado ??? ….. I have rented really nice vacation homes (1-2 annually) for 25-years in many states (FL, CA, GA, SC, NC, TN & NY) and although I never had any pets, I always noticed that many homes allowed pets (within reason). I never pursued the matter, but maybe there is a cat prejudice and by pets they meant dogs ….. Looking forward to many great pictures
Frank,
Frisco is at the nexus of many great Colorado Ski Towns and Mountain Passes. The the south is Breckenridge and Hoosier Pass on the way into Fairplay and South Park. To the east is Loveland Pass on the way to Georgetown and also across I-70 to Winter Park. To the west is Vail Pass on the way to Vail, and also if you turn left before you get to the bike path going to Vail, you can ride up to Leadville and Aspen.
I found no places that allowed cats. Perhaps when I travel to less well known places, they will allow animals. Some places will allow small dogs under 25 pounds, but no places allow cats. Its okay, I am sure the cats will be happier staying at home, after all, they really don’t care about seeing mountains.
