Dr. Zeus (aka the Green Truckster) is ready for the cross country trip from Florida to Colorado. When I was a kid, my Mom and Dad would load up my brother, sister and I along with a full compliment of camping supplies into a 1964 Dodge Dart 270, a very small compact car. Space was very tight. Every summer for 10 years we would drive out west from Pittsburgh over four days, setting up and breaking down camp each evening until we reached destinations like Yellowstone, the Tetons, Bryce and Zion Canyons, the Grand Canyon, and Glacier National Park. KOA campgrounds were $2 a night and gas was .25/gallon. We would finally settle into a campground for two weeks, mostly in national parks. Then we would drive back east again over four days, again setting up and breaking down camp each evening. They instilled a love of the national parks and travel in us. Now I am making my first road trip across the country in over 40 years. I’ve taken a lot of trips over the years, but they were all by airplane. I will be more comfortable in Dr. Zeus than in the the back of that tiny robin egg blue Dodge Dart. I am sure my mother and father will be smiling from the heavens watching over me as I make my way to Colorado.
Have a great and safe road trip!
Thanks Michelle. The drive out was interesting in places, especially trying to navigate around bigger cities. I forgot how many trucks are on the Interstates, but know I don’t have to drive for a month. Hope you are doing well Michelle.
