The bicycle trail from Frisco to Breckenridge is shown here. I cycled this trail on bike tours back in 1999 and 2007, so the trail was very familiar. This trail is part of a network of paved bicycle trails connecting Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Vail, Dillon, Silverthorne and Keystone. Frisco is in the center of all these towns. You can ride for miles on these bike paths without having to worry about cars. At the end of some of the trails are lightly traveled roads climbing high alpine mountain passes. The mountain passes include Vail Pass, Hoosier Pass, Loveland Pass, and Freemont Pass. Hoosier, Loveland, and Freemont passes crest between 11,000 and 12,000 feet. I am going to attempt to ascend all of them. I’ve climbed all but Freemont Pass before. The nice part is that when you get to the top, all you have to do is turn around and coast downhill most of the way home. Well you are not exactly coasting, more like a riveting winding high speed descent with speeds approaching 40-50 mph. The best part of this trail network (technically called a Recreational Pathway System) is how close it is to the condo I am staying in. After making a right out of the condo complex, the trail is less than 50 yards away. So after driving a truck for 1900 miles, I am hardly going need to drive at all for the next month.
