Sapphire Point Overlook is between Dillon and Frisco on Swan Mountain Road 500 feet above the valleys below. Thunderstorms chased me off the overlook shortly after I arrived. The rain and thunderstorms are easily visible in the photos. I will go back up there another time in sunny weather for better photographs. Thunderstorms do provide interesting lighting for photographs. Thunderstorms also make interesting lightning so I left quickly. Living in Florida I know better than to stand near the top of an overlook during a thunderstorm. A spectacular 270 degree panorama is visible from the overlook. The view in the first photo is looking southward towards Breckenridge. The view in the second photo looks west towards Frisco. The view in the third photo looks north towards the Dillon Dam. The views in the fourth and fifth photos look eastward towards Dillon and the valley leading to Keystone and Loveland Pass. Sapphire Point Overlook offers a stunning view of the Dillon Reservoir. Dillon Reservoir is 3,200 acres in size and has 27 miles of shoreline. The reservoir is filled by the Blue River flowing through Breckenridge from the Hoosier Pass area along the Ten Mile Range, Ten Mile Creek flowing through Frisco from Copper, and the Snake River flowing through Keystone from the Loveland Pass area. Below Dillon Dam, the Blue River flows north and northwest and joins the Colorado River.
