I cycled up Poncha Pass on the 4th of July. I saw this very scenic mountain hamlet while cycling up the pass. Perfect conditions existed for a high speed descent back down the pass. The road was smooth, fairly straight with wide sweeping turns, 7% grade, and I finally had a strong tailwind instead of gusting crosswinds. I reached 44.4 mph before I got scared and started braking. While braking, I remembered the difficultly of slowing a bike from 40+ mph on a steep descent.
